THE LAZY GIRL SOURDOUGH SAGA: A QUEST FOR BREAD AND FRIENDSHIP

Once upon a time, in the realm of kitchen chaos and carb cravings, I found myself on a peculiar journey – a quest for the perfect sourdough without the hassle. Little did I know, this adventure would lead me to the side of a road, meeting a stranger named Crista, and discovering the magic of lazy girl sourdough.

It all began with my feeble attempts to create a sourdough starter. Flour dusted my kitchen, but the elusive tangy alchemy escaped me. Feeling defeated, I turned to the sacred grounds of the internet and stumbled upon Crista.

In a leap of faith, I messaged her on Facebook, proposing a meeting on the side of a road – the modern-day bread exchange. Surprisingly, she agreed, and our friendship bloomed from that fateful encounter.

Crista, the sourdough sorceress, generously shared her easy-as-hell recipe, lifting the heavy burden of sourdough struggle from my shoulders. Now, I make bread every day, and Crista and I share our doughy masterpieces like two carb-loving comrades.

Without further ado, I present to you the Lazy Girl Sourdough recipe, gifted by the bread fairy herself, Crista:

Ingredients:

  • 600g all-purpose flour
  • 335g warm water
  • 170g active starter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  • 1. Mix all the ingredients in your trusty kitchenaid with the hook attachment. Let it sit in the mixer for 30 mins at speed 1 (or mix by hand and let it sit in a mixing bowl).
  • 2. After 30 mins, fold and stretch the dough, then place it in a covered glass bowl or Pyrex. Let it sit overnight.
  • 3. The next morning, spread out the dough on the counter, fold it like an envelope, then roll it. Place it in a bowl or banneton and let it chill in the fridge while the oven (and Dutch oven) heat to 475°F.
  • 4. Once the oven and Dutch oven are properly heated, put the bread on a piece of parchment paper in the Dutch oven, close the lid, and bake.
  • 5. Bake for 25 mins with the lid on at 475°F, then 25-30 mins with the lid off at 450°F.

May your lazy girl sourdough adventures be as delightful as mine, and don’t hesitate to reach out to a random stranger for that magical starter. Cheers to bread, friendship, and the whimsical world of sourdough sorcery!
